January’s Saints

“In the live music industry, there’s a saying- the show must go on. And go on it will, no matter who- or what, is watching. Small-time girl band January’s Saints is on the verge of dismantling. With no streams, no gigs, and no publicity to speak of- the members are just about ready to call it quits. Until one day, out of the blue, they find themselves invited to be an opening act at the newly revived Moon and Sun Music festival. January, Lacey, Cassandra, and their enthusiastic roadie Jon are thrust into a world of music and fame, and the inkling feeling in the pit of their stomachs that something isn’t quite right. The stage manager smiles just a touch too big, Lacey keeps finding long black hairs on her pillow, and the other opening acts seem to just keep going missing. Follow January’s Saints as they navigate stardom, songwriting, and the strange sound under the main stage that goes thunk… thunk… thunk…

Yearlong Community Partnership

Jana Marie Foundation

Community Design Lab & IMA Practicum

During the Fall 2023 semester, Community Design Lab partnered with the Jana Marie Foundation, a local nonprofit committed to destigmatizing suicide and promoting prevention.
We invited the nonprofit to campus to discuss to their overall creative promotional strategy and capture professional headshots and video interviews. We visited the location on-site documenting their business and identified future promotional goals. We determined in the fall that we wished to continue to work with the organization over the course of the academic year. During the  Spring 2024 semester, students in Practicum are creating additional deliverables, editing video content for social media and web, designing event materials, and curating a library of stock images and video for the organization to use.

Passion Projects

Business of Design (IM376)

Students work to choose a subject that they are passionate about that will showcase their skills, allow them to learn a new skill, and most importantly create a top portfolio piece you are proud to showcase! By spending dedicated time on the project of their choice, students incorporate time tracking, deadline setting, proofing stages, and final deliverables as part of a self-identified project.

I am using my passion project as dedicated time to prepare for a longer yearlong research project in my senior year. Focused on illustration, character design, and script writing; my capstone project goal is to create a graphic novel. After drafting a manuscript that will assist in my senior year capstone, I plan to prepare to research how to create a comic book while writing and illustrating my own story as the primary artist and writer.

Through my passion project, I channel my creativity to capture the essence of the world around me through the lens of emotion. Using acrylic paint on canvas, I express my deepest feelings and perceptions, inviting viewers to explore and connect with the layers of meaning within each piece. For this project my inspiration came from digital art but as a primarily tech focused student I wanted to take a studio approach to my creative work.

I am a Sophomore looking to pursue a career in Sports Media Production.  For my passion project I am researching brand identities while making a branding book for my own Esports Organization. SideBySide Esports is a competitive gaming organization with the intent of bringing the community together.

I have been wanting to start up a religious clothing brand for a couple of months now and the passion project felt like the right time to do so. For this project, I have decided to make 2 clothing designs that will be put on t-shirts, tank tops, long-sleeve shirts, and hoodies. Along with that, I am coding the back end of a fully functional website that I plan to go live, ready for orders within the coming months.

For my passion project I am creating 2D characters into 3D modeled characters ready for animation. My process is drawing them on paper, then importing them into Photoshop and then moving into Blender a 3D modeling software. My goal for the Passion Project is to have a 360 video of my characters. As an avid illustrator, I chose this project to gain more digital experience in Photoshop and Blender.

For my passion project, I chose to combine my love of theatre and my passion for creating visual art. My goal is to create a series of three theater posters, based on specific plays—Macbeth, Gaslight, and The Visit. For this project I hope to gain more experience taking hand rendered artwork into digital illustrations in preparation for printing.
