East Broad Top

At the start of the Fall 2020 semester in the height of the pandemic the IMA Practicum students were tasked with initiating a collaborative project with the East Broad Top Railroad. What was initially a print design project collaborating with the Juniata College History department quickly turned into a beautiful oral history capturing stories from all walks of life. The trio of students worked to capture personal narratives of the restoration of a local and national historical treasure. Following the production of the EBT Documentary the students in Practicum have since worked on editing the written content from Fall 2020 history practicum students and published A Brief Guide to the EBT summer 2023.

This 115 page, 6×9 inch, softbound booklet is an introduction to the East Broad Top Railroad.

“Visiting the East Broad Top Railroad? This guide explains everything from the route you’ll ride and the whistle signals you’ll hear to the history of this unique railroad, a living relic of the American Industrial Age.

A Brief Guide to the EBT is the result of a remarkable collaboration among Juniata College students and faculty members, the EBT Foundation, the Friends of the East Broad Top, and the East Broad Top Archives and Special Collections.”
