POE: Integrated Media Arts
I chose Juniata because the community truly illustrates helping and supporting one another. The campus has so many resources that help students in their academic careers, such as the Digital Media Studio. The Integrated Media Arts program allowed me to diversify my skill-set. These skills I’ve learned are now supporting me in my job post-grad.
Were you individualized or did you choose a designated path?
Designated
What drew you to choosing your creative path?
I graduated from Juniata College with an Integrated Media Arts P.O.E. Even though I wanted a career in Video Production, I chose not to individualize because I wanted to take courses that covered a variety of different areas so that I am able to have a diverse skill set.
Why did you choose Juniata College?
When I was a senior in High School, I visited Juniata College to see if I wanted to apply there. I met with one of the counselors and she told me about Kepple Hall. At the time, it was only an idea, but she told me how it was going to help students in the IMA program by providing them with labs, editing suites, and many other features. This showed me that Juniata College cares about its programs and students because they do whatever they can to help students learn and prepare them for a career. I also chose Juniata College because of the Digital Media Studio. The Digital Media Studio creates all of Juniata College’s marketing videos and I was one of the student assistants that worked there. In the Digital Media Studio, I learned how to edit videos that targeted a specific audience, how to conduct interviews, how to use branding in videos, how to organize and store projects, and an abundance of other things.
Post-Grad:
Where are you currently employed and what is your current position title?
IBC Global Inc. My position title is Video Editor.
What is your favorite thing about your current position?
My favorite thing is being able to edit their videos and having creative freedom doing it.
How long did it take you to find a job after graduation?
5 months
What are your main sources of inspiration?
My main sources of inspiration are looking at videos on YouTube and seeing a lot of different editing styles and effects. I am also inspired by Luke Fragello who was my former boss at the Digital Media Studio. He showed me that videos can be informative but also tell a story at the same time.
How would you describe your art/design style?
I would describe my editing style as storytelling.
How do you balance your work life and home/social life? Any tips for soon-to-be grads?
I balance my work life and home/social life by trying to set time apart to visit friends and family or give them a call. A tip for soon-to-be grads would be that work is important, but not as important as your friends and family. Sometimes I even find it hard to have time to see family and friends, but giving them a text or a five-minute call can make a difference.
