I chose to study in the Integrated Media Arts program because I came to college wanting to understand more about digital media. Initially, I wanted to study only photography, but once I was exposed to other IMA and Marketing courses, I found my love for not only design but also how to market my designs effectively for businesses through logos, promotional material, and online presence.
I currently study Graphic Communication which is an individualized Program of Emphasis. Into one unique program I incorporated all aspects of visual communication that I love. I’ve been able to combine aspects from the Communication Department and Integrated Media Arts Program to create the unique education that I want to study which includes project management, social entrepreneurship, and branding for community engagement.
I chose to study Integrated Media Arts because of its fluid and interdisciplinary nature. As a student you get the choice to pair it with other departments of study such as Fine Arts, Communication, Information Technology, and more, which allows you to obtain knowledge from all of those different programs and put them together in a unique combination.
Before coming to college, I wanted to be a designer. Based on concerns from my family, I wasn’t sure if it was a reliable career path, so instead I chose to study chemistry. After a year of studying in that field, I realized that I wasn’t excited about doing it every day. I switched my Program of Emphasis to be involved with the Integrated Media Arts program to pursue what I actually love doing: design.
Huntingdon, Pa. – Thursday. Jan. 30, 2020
The Huntingdon County Humane Society, a local animal shelter that aims to find loving homes for dogs and cats in both Huntingdon and Mifflin County, launched their new brand this Sunday. Students from Juniata College’s Integrated Media Arts program (IMA) worked closely with the shelter to redesign the previous logo and website, as well as integrate new ideas to streamline the adoption process.
Get to know a little about Alex and her adventures post graduation! “While being a student at Juniata, I was heavily involved with extracurricular activities and campus jobs. I can’t stress the importance of this enough.”
Community-engaged learning provides students with opportunities to gain skills for success. This type of education has been crucial to my development personally and professionally. Now, I know how to see mistakes as opportunities to learn, face challenges effectively and appropriately, and give and receive constructive feedback. Beyond that, high-impact practices allowed me to become a global citizen that cares about the world.
During the 2019 fall semester, our practicum class took on partnering with a national organization for the first time. We are currently working with the Consortium for Computing Sciences In Colleges (CCSC) to develop their national main branding and regional sub-brand visual identity, redesign their national and regional websites, as well as convention materials.
The organization that I am working for is the Gettysburg Battlefield Preservation Association. They have a professionally designed website which I am currently in charge of maintaining. The internship however is to create advertisements and physical deliverables that are consistent with their new website.
Our Integrated Media Arts (IMA) professor Ryan Gibboney once stated, “Client-based work is not regularly intertwined in the foundation of traditional undergraduate design education.”
